Constructed out of Bristol paper, the stepping of the unrolled surfaces is articulated through colour. Each alternate piece is painted cobalt blue, resulting in a variegated spiral that wraps around the vase.
The object emulates Portuguese blue tiles, or azulejos, and is ultimately mimetic of long-standing Chinese and Persian traditions of blue and white porcelain, which heavily influenced Western ceramics.
